Taxi Driver (1976)

Nominated for the Academy Award for score, supporting actress, actor, and picture.

Winner of the American Film Institute’s top one hundred movies of all time: number forty-seven.

Scorsese was not originally intended for the director’s job on this project and so we should all thank the film gods above that he got it. The story follows one of the most famous antiheroes in the history of film; Travis Bickle. Just recently home from a trip in the Vietnam War, Travis tries to fight his insomnia problems by getting a job driving a cab at night.

While out in New York City after hours, he is constantly exposed to some of societies absolute worst. With the constant negativity surrounding him, his life, and perception of reality, begins to fall apart. He decides to rid the world of the problem the only way that he knows how; with violence. It’s the type of film that you just can’t get out of your head and can haunt you in your sleep. (Directed by Martin Scorsese
