The Rain People (1969)

Starring Shirley Knight, James Caan, Robert Duvall, and Tom Aldredge.  Cinematography by Bill Butler.  Edited by Barry Malkin.  Produced by Ronald Colby and Bart Patton. Written and Directed by Francis Ford Coppola

A nice little slice of sixties Americana that follows a woman who decides to take a vacation from her marriage.  She travels across the east coast and meets new and interesting people.  Not considered to be in the better part of Coppola's work, but interesting to watch for the list of the young, now popular stars (James Caan, Shirley Knight, Robert Duvall, etc.).

Coppola wrote the script in just two weeks while directing Finian’s Rainbow. On the set George Lucas made a documentary titled “Filmmaker” that detailed the film’s production. Coppola funded the project with money from the still photography budget.

“Filmmaker” is a great piece of work and is still used today as a study piece in film schools.  It’s also interesting to mention that this is the first film produced by Coppola’s production company, American Zoetrope.
