Platoon (1986)

Won the Academy Award for sound, editing, director, and picture. Nominated for cinematography, screenplay written directly for the screen, and supporting actor. Won the American Film Institute's one hundred best films of all time: number eighty-three. If you have not seen this movie, please go do so. It projects the hell of the Vietnam War and the trials of the men who lived through it. What is really remarkable about this movie is that not only does it show conflict of war with the enemy, but also brilliantly portrays the bitter conflict between men on the same side. The film is based from Oliver Stone's own personal experiences from Vietnam and while he had directed films before, this was really his breakout project. Truly beautiful work.
