Natural Born Killers (1994)

This is one hell of a movie. It follows Mickey and Mallory Knox, two crazed lovers on a murderous rampage / honeymoon. They not only kill and maim, but also work the media up into an absolute frenzy. It's really an essay on how glorified criminals are into today's society; not really focusing on where we are now, but aiming for where we could be headed. The film is indeed ultraviolet, but not in the way that you may remember. Most of the violence is done off screen or in such a cartoonish manner that it can't be taken seriously. Stone beautifully shows that the implication of something horrible can be as effective, if not more, than showing the act itself. And after multiple threats of an NC-17 rating, Stone only had to cut three graphic minutes to achieve an R. Also, if you haven't heard about the screenplay controversy, check out our Quentin Tarantino page to read all about it. (Written and directed by Oliver Stone)
