How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000)
Won the Academy Award for makeup. Nominated for art direction/set decoration and costume design. A pretty cute retelling of the classic Dr. Seuss story. The idea's the same, but there are a few elements and scenes added to fatten it up a bit. Not a big Jim Carrey fan, but he did a great job here. The story goes that the Seuss' had been approached in the past about doing a live action version of the story. They refused until the good doctor's widow saw a live performance of the story in San Francisco. From that she saw potential for the film and gave up the rights. And the rest is Christmas magic.
