Days of Thunder (1990)

Nominated for the Academy Award for sound. Top Gun on wheels. Thirty-five cars were totaled during the filming of this movie. Most of them were built specially for the film, and a few of the ones that survived were actually raced by NASCAR drivers. Twenty-nine cameras simultaneously shot over a million feet of second unit film during the Daytona 500 race. All that and a story too. It follows one man's dream to build a winning racecar and another man's dream to be the best. If you're into racing, you'll probably love this movie. Even if you're not you'll probably get something out of it. During the scene where the two drivers race their rental cars, Scott wanted birds to scatter as the cars pass the beach. Seagulls were lured down with birdseed and the scene was set. The drivers take off, most of the birds stay to eat the seed, and are totally flattened. Hope the Humane Society took that day off. (Directed by Tony Scott)
