Contact (1997)
Nominated for the Academy Award for sound.
An incredible sci-fi film that is unlike any other in it's genre. When an astronomer discovers a radio signal being broadcast from outerspace, and finally decodes it, she discovers it to be plans to a giant machine that can be used to send a human into contact with alien life forms. The film is based on a novel by the Pulitzer Prize winning author, Carl Sagan.
This is the only science fiction novel that Sagan ever wrote. He was hired as a technical advisor for the scientific authenticity of the film, but sadly died during filming. (Directed by Robert Zemeckis)
