Born on the Fourth of July (1989)
Won the Academy Award for editing and director. Nominated for cinematography, score, sound, screenplay based from previous material, actor, and picture. This film is the biography of Ron Kovic. Ron was sent off to fight in Vietnam in the 1960's and was paralyzed from the waist down in combat. He returned to America only to be shunned and pushed away by the community that so strongly supported him before the war. He became a voice for anti-war efforts and a leader for those who had experienced similar circumstances. Excellent movie by Stone and considered by many fans to be his best. On a side note, Kovic gave his bronze star to Tom Cruise for his part in the film. (Written and directed by Oliver Stone)
