Nominated for the Academy Award for cinematography, costume design, original score, and screenplay written directly for the screen.
A story about America "the promise land" and an immigrant Jewish family just trying to make it. Levinson has said that most of the films that he’s seen that deal with immigration are set in New York, and that was his motivation for this picture. Growing up in Maryland, he was exposed to a lot of its immigration and the film is set around his experiences. Also, the third of his hometown chronicles. (Written and directed by Barry Levinson)
